This ingenious cannabis ad parodies Big Pharma
Oregon-based Briteside has created one of the best cannabis ads we've seen yet, to mark the launch of its home cannabis subscription and delivery service.
The 1.30-minute spot clearly parodies the codes of drug advertising. The ad even includes a list of expected side effects (a legal requirement in the USA for ’real« drugs), including »euphoria, increased appetite, uncontrolled laughter, heightened sensitivity to music and reduced anxiety«.
She begins with a statement of fact: «Sometimes you feel the need to stop worrying and take a deep breath. Sometimes you need cannabis.»
The ad then goes on to mention a few types of dank herb (quality herbs) and sticky icky (a very resinous herb) which she offers to deliver to your door.
And even concludes with «Ask your doctor if cannabis would be right for you. We bet you would.»
Briteside was actually launching its Discovery Box, a cannabis subscription and delivery system (the American equivalent of the Green Box, with a little more grass inside), and its service Shop Now, a day-of-order delivery and drive-through service for medical and recreational cannabis in Portland, Bend and Ashland, Oregon.
Briteside expects to be able to supply 90% of Oregon residents by the end of the year, and 90% of Nevada residents by the end of 2018, and then expand throughout the United States.
Although sarcastic, the advertising touches on everyday problems and stresses. For its Communications Director, David Martin, interviewed by Dope Magazine, Briteside doesn't believe that cannabis is a «cure-all» or a miracle solution. However, it can be a great help to many people from all walks of life. We look forward to a day in the near future when the clichés and barriers associated with cannabis are a thing of the past, and a time when people can have unrestricted access to the products that help them".
