Uruguay: advertising campaign to prevent problematic cannabis use
Uruguay’s National Drug Commission, the Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis, and the Ministry of Public Health launched an advertising campaign on Monday aimed at preventing problematic cannabis use.
According to Diego Olivera, director of the National Drug Commission, dialogue and the «positive involvement» of parents and institutions are a «good way to prevent problematic drug use, through timely access to information about the risks.».
«Surveys conducted at the national and international levels show that this positive dialogue or involvement acts as a protective factor against the problematic use of this substance,» he said.
Olivera clarified that «raising awareness» on this issue stems from the «conviction» that it is necessary to do so «and because the law requires it,» «regardless of the fact that, in recent surveys conducted among high school students, the perception of risk is decreasing,» a finding that 'we obviously take into account.».
The campaign will run for 20 days, featuring the four commercials below (in Spanish).
