First «cannabis cruise» scheduled for October 2016
The American cannabis industry has been at the center of some impressive changes, and ganjapreneur James Lee is preparing a project that might have passed for a sweet dream just a few years before.
On October 24, 2016, a commercial cruise ship full of cannabis professionals will set sail from Florida for Jamaica, where they will be hosted for a seminar, with cannabis on tap.
«It's really something that's never been done before,» James Lee, founder of Skill Stix and Dabvertising, told Ganjapreneur. And to answer the question we're asking: no, due to international laws, the cruise itself won't be cannabis-friendly. «There's no legal way to have anything on the boat. It's just not possible, the coastguard could seize the ship.»
The project had been in the pipeline for over a year. After encountering numerous objections, James Lee finally enlisted the help of a friend's company, Canna-Travel, which specializes in cannabis tourism. Together, they landed a deal with what Lee says is one of the world's most established cruise lines.
«We went out and approached this big industry and said: look at what we're putting together,» says Lee. «We've got financing... We've got everything, right down to the necklaces that the participants will have. We have everything, we just need a boat.
And it worked! See you in October.
