Larry Flynt: from porn to weed
Larry Flynt, publisher of the magazine Hustler and legendary defender of the First Amendment (which guarantees freedom of religion and speech, freedom of the press, and the right to peaceful assembly), has invested in a company called Pineapple Express, named of a famous variety which itself had a movie named after him.
He reportedly purchased 100,000$ shares in this Los Angeles-based company, which specializes in «consulting, technology, investment, and branding in the legal cannabis industry.» An article published by Forbes It also reveals that Flynt's daughter, Theresa, has been the company's vice president since December 2015.
In a statement last week, Matthew Feinstein, CEO of Pineapple Express, said the company was «lucky» to have Larry Flynt’s support.
«Knowing that Mr. Flynt has invested in our company will provide a boost for everyone here to exceed expectations and deliver excellent results,» he said. «We aim to build long-term value for Mr. Flynt and our other shareholders.».
The strength of a an investor like Larry Flynt is that he brings with him decades of conviction and a vision for the federal government shaped by his experience with numerous cases involving American civil liberties.
«Pharmaceutical companies don't want people to turn to the cannabis for pain relief »because that means they'll spend less on pills," Flynt said.
«The alcohol industry doesn't want competition, either. With the growing body of scientific evidence that the Cannabis is healthier than alcohol, »Legal cannabis will certainly deal a huge blow to the profits of alcohol producers. And that means cracking down on cannabis growers and cannabis smokers.".
During a recent interview for MG Magazine, Theresa Flynt explained that many of the obstacles she faced during her years working in the porn industry are no different from what she sees today in the legal cannabis industry.
«Believe it or not, the challenges are less specific to the cannabis industry and more similar to those in the adult industry,» she said. «The cannabis industry is currently facing challenges that the adult entertainment industry encountered several decades ago. Laws are changing rapidly, so it’s important to keep up with developments and stay informed»;
The most recent study estimates that the cannabis industry in the United States will reach $23 billion in 2020. California is expected to be the next state to legalize cannabis, which could spark a massive push for legalization across the country, or even lead to federal reform.
