Damian Marley: a cannabis dispensary in Colorado, a plantation in California
On September 22, Damian Marley opened Stony Hill, his first dispensary, in partnership with the dispensary chain Tru Cannabis. There, he will sell cannabis-related products, including edibles, extracts, and various strains of cannabis. It also has a 3,000-square-meter cultivation area.
Damian Marley joins The Game, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa or Willie Nelson among the long list of artists venturing into the cannabis industry. «I never thought I’d open a dispensary in my life,» he told Billboard. «We’ve always been in favor of legalizing cannabis, and we’ve always hoped to get involved in something like this, but I never would have thought it would actually happen.».
In addition to his dispensary in Colorado, Damian has invested part of the $4 million needed to purchase a 7,000-square-meter cannabis cultivation facility in California—located in a former state prison—in partnership with Ocean Grown Extracts. His farm will grow medical cannabis for dispensaries throughout California. The company will create 100 jobs and generate $1 million in annual tax revenue for the city of Coalinga. Not to mention the potential Legalization of cannabis in California in November.
Damian Marley also announced the launch of Speak Life, a cannabis strain developed in collaboration with Ocean Grown. The news strain is based on OG Kush and has been genetically modified (ouch!?!). «OG has always been my favorite,» says Damian. The strain is a hybrid of 70% indica and 30% sativa, and will be harvested and cleaned by hand. The farm will also produce oil.
Damian, 38, is Bob Marley’s youngest son. He was personally involved in the creation of his dispensary, Stony Hill, which is also the name of his fourth album, set to be released next year alongside his first harvest in California. «Stony Hill is a place in Jamaica where I grew up, and it holds a lot of meaning for me.».
You can already listen to «Nail Pon Cross,» the new single from his upcoming album.
