CBG to combat neuroinflammation and oxidative stress
Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress play a major role in neurodegeneration. A new study shows that CBG, one of the cannabinoids, could be a potential treatment for these diseases.
Neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and neurodegeneration
Neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and neurodegeneration are three distinct concepts.
The neurodegeneration is defined as the death of nerve cells, which can result from various chronic and progressive diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's.
The oxidative stress, or oxidative stress, is a type of damage to cellular components caused, for example, by factors such as pollution, tobacco, poor diet, etc.
As for the neuroinflammation, ...it is an inflammatory immune response that affects neurons.
These last two have been found to be potential triggers of neurodegenerative diseases and are therefore seriously dangerous.
CBG
The CBG, or cannabigerol, is a cannabinoid generally found in small amounts in cannabis. CBG is known to kill or slow bacterial growth, reduce inflammation (particularly in its acidic form, CBDGa), inhibit the growth of cancer cells, and promote bone growth.
A study A recent study examined the neuroprotective effects of CBG: it appears to protect nervous tissue—such as the brain, spinal cord, and nerves—from certain threats, specifically oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.
The researchers investigated CBG’s ability to protect NSC-34 motor neurons from toxicity. The results showed that pretreatment with CBG can reduce cell death. The experiment also revealed that CBG inhibited apoptosis, a process known as «cell suicide,» and that its action also reduced oxidative stress.
The scientists conclude the study by stating that «these results demonstrate the neuroprotective effects of CBG, which may be a potential treatment for neuroinflammation and oxidative stress.».
