Bedrocan becomes the world's first GMP-certified cannabis producer

After undergoing rigorous inspections by the Dutch Health Inspectorate, Bedrocan became the first producer of medical marijuana in the world to comply with GMP standards (Good Manufacturing Practices, "Good Manufacturing Practices" in French).

The GMP standard is the highest level of quality certification for the manufacture of human medications. It takes into account both the numerous regulations governing cannabis production and the quality of the final product. For reference, Sanofi’s manufacturing facilities are required to follow the GMP guidelines.

The president of Bedrocan welcomed this certification: «This is an important recognition. We have always been committed to meeting the highest pharmaceutical standards. Today, our way of working has been officially recognized by the authorities.».

Since 2003, Bedrocan produces medical cannabis standardized as a pharmaceutical active ingredient. It is the only company in the world today that produces whole cannabis flowers with a consistent composition of cannabinoids and terpenes.

Bedrocan’s Dutch subsidiary now supplies its products to patients and researchers throughout Europe: the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Italy, Macedonia, and Poland. Its cannabis flowers have also been included in the first clinical trials of Medical cannabis vaporization in Australia.

She also works in Israel as a partnership with Syqe Medical, a company that has developed a spray capable of delivering very precise doses of cannabinoids, just like a traditional medication. The stability of Bedrocan cannabis is one of the keys to their success.

Bedrocan's Canadian and Czech subsidiaries are also expected to receive this certification in 2018.

Why is this certification important? Because in France, the image of a patient who uses cannabis for medical purposes is still associated with pothead from the person who smokes a spliff on the couch at the end of the day to the «malingerer» who wants to make their headache go away. Medical cannabis flowers, however, help and relieve thousands of sick patients across Europe, based on medical, pharmaceutical, and non-fanciful criteria. But not in France.
