Autistic boy speaks after two days of cannabis oil treatment

Little Kalel Santiago faced serious challenges during his childhood. At 10 months old, he was diagnosed with a serious form of cancer called neuroblastoma. For two years, he underwent radiation and chemotherapy. He eventually beat the cancer but developed a severe form of autism.

In particular, he was unable to speak. «When he was in the hospital, we noticed that he wasn’t speaking at all and that he was acting strangely—his hands were shaking, and he was walking on his tiptoes,» said his father, Abiel Gomez Santiago. «We waited until he was 3 years old and cancer-free before taking a closer look at his behavior.».

His parents tried several approaches to help him cope with his autism, including enrolling him in special education schools and therapy programs, and studying his autistic behavior on their own. Abel made some progress at his surf school, but he still wasn't speaking.

They quickly discovered the benefits of hemp oil, which is rich in cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating chemical compound found in certain varieties of cannabis. CBD has been widely used to relieve the symptoms of autism and epilepsy.

Within two days, Kalel started speaking again. He uttered his first vowels at school, which the teacher captured on video and sent to his parents. «You can’t imagine how moved we were to hear Kalel speak for the first time,» said his father, Abiel.

They continued to administer two doses of’cannabis oil per day, as prescribed, and Kalel quickly began to say his first consonants. One of his first phrases—which his parents will always remember—was «amo mi mama,» which means «I love you, Mom.».
