How many fatal cannabis overdoses were there in 2015?
A new study shows that, unsurprisingly, the number of people dying from cannabis overdoses has remained the same for several years, including 2015. The study consolidates its data year on year, particularly with the 23 US states that have legalized cannabis in one form or another.
The number of cannabis overdose deaths in 2015 is therefore... 0. Zero. Nobody. Nobody.
And for good reason: cannabis has no lethal dose. Technically, you'd have to smoke 42kg of cannabis in 15 minutes to overdose, and the idiot who tried it would first die of carbon monoxide poisoning.
This figure of 0 deaths remains the same as in previous years, according to published figures by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. The same cannot be said for other substances, both legal and illegal (medicines and hard drugs). In 2015, 17,465 people died in the United States from overdoses linked to illegal drugs such as heroin and cocaine, while 2,5760 people died from medications, including painkillers and tranquilizers like Valium.
Alcohol abuse, meanwhile, killed 30,700 Americans in 2015, a figure that does not include alcohol-related deaths in motor vehicle accidents.
Although it's not possible to administer a lethal dose of cannabis, driving under the influence can be a serious offence. weed and other risky behaviors can be amplified by cannabis and lead to fatal accidents. But the biggest risk of cannabis overdose is a big bad trip.

Wow!!! Indeed, the demonstration is convincing!
But I have a question: how many overdoses have there been in the last ten years with tobacco???
I'll leave you to conclude...

Probably 0 too Bob, we can therefore conclude that, like tobacco, cannabis could be sold over the counter, reserved for adults, and that prevention messages be broadcast to explain the risks associated with cannabis consumption. There are certainly fewer than with tobacco, especially if it is vaporized or ingested.

Tobacco can be ingested, or inhaled by vaporization, the only bad thing about cannabis is the way it's consumed by combustion. What's more, cannabis hasn't just been used for 10 years, it's been used for centuries, and no deaths have ever been recorded. Today's politicians need to change their rhetoric, which doesn't reflect reality.

Lost! It seems incredible, but in 2015, there were cannabis overdoses, the most visible of which took place in England... The most visible because it's one of the only ones to have been the subject of an in-depth study. Previous cases had not been directly linked, as it seemed impossible to reach the lethal dose, as it exceeded the brain-dead zone (the vegetable stage)... And most heavy users reached saturation long before (some with ethyl-type comas).
But as with alcohol, we have to face up to the fact that not everyone is equal, and that dangerous quantities vary from one individual to another.

Hi @luc_archambault:disqus
Do you have a link to back up your claim? Like the extensive study you're talking about.

scythe I quote from an article in zamnesia: «Some media outlets in the UK, particularly those known for stoking fears, were a little hasty in relaying information about a woman who died of cannabis poisoning after smoking just half a joint. Information that directly contradicts decades of solid evidence and research proving that such a thing is impossible. The autopsy could find no natural cause for her death, and cannabis was found in her system. In a fit of grade-school science, forensic scientists concluded that cannabis must have been the cause of her death. Since then, many doctors have taken the unanimous position that cannabis could not possibly have been the cause of her death. Many medical professionals seem to think that the woman may have died from underlying heart problems. review your sources mr lao tzu!

Bogus source, no value, you can pack it in: «Visit Zamnesia to buy Cannabis Seeds and Headshop products», I'm only quoting them, it's not credible... It's a bit like Areva telling us that nuclear power is safe... They're defending their «steak» and they're not even close to the level of lies.
I've just seen the English case, and the woman had no pathology (no heart problems), but I've been told of other cases in the US, including one in Colorado... I'm looking for links to them, and if anyone finds any real information (and not fake stuff... Isn't it !!!...) please post it.

In any case, you can search all you like, it is scientifically recognized that to reach the lethal dose of cannabis, you would have to ingest more than 40 kg in less than 15 minutes... http://tempsreel.nouvelobs.com/rue89/rue89-sante/20111227.RUE6727/mort-par-overdose-de-cannabis-l-afp-a-trop-fume.html
