14% of Americans use CBD
According to a survey conducted by Gallup, 14% Americans reported that they regularly use CBD products, compared to 50% who do not use them, and 35% who do not know much about these products. The cannabidiol is one of the non-psychoactive components of the cannabis plant.
20% of adults under 30 report using CBD in the United States, but use and familiarity with the product gradually decline among older age groups. Only 8% of people aged 65 and older report use CBD, and 49% are not familiar with it. This trend is also noticeable in Gallup's demographic data Regarding cannabis use, younger adults report a higher prevalence of marijuana use than older adults.
Among those surveyed, many people use CBD-based products for the molecule’s pain-relieving properties. The survey shows that 40% of cannabidiol users cite pain relief as one of the main reasons they take it. Anxiety (20%), insomnia (11%), and arthritis (8%) are the other most commonly cited reasons for using CBD.
Since the Farm Bill 2018 Since the law legalizing hemp cultivation was enacted last December, many CBD-based products have been introduced to the market, but the vast majority of Americans are not yet familiar with them or do not use them. However, CBD is still not legal at the federal level in the United States, even though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in July that it would expedite the regulatory process for cannabidiol. The issue stems from the fact that CBD is the active ingredient in Epidiolex, a drug used to treat epilepsy. Since the molecule cannot be classified as both a drug and a food ingredient, the process of establishing regulations will likely take a long time.
