On September 16, Château de Cherveux (79) hosts its first Hemp Festival
The date is set, and curious hemp lovers can mark their calendars for this not-to-be-missed event. The Château de Cherveux, a witness to medieval times, will be opening its doors and fields to welcome the very first Fête Nationale du Chanvre. The event will bring together enthusiasts, producers, industry players and hemp experts to focus on four hemp-related sectors: food, well-being, textiles and construction.
On-site round-table discussions, conferences, local and national producers, institutional players involved in the hemp sector, and brands dedicated to hemp will be gathered in a veritable «hemp village» around the château. With on-site catering all day long featuring hemp specialities, a hemp beer bar and tastings of all kinds, the festival will be in full swing from 8am to 6pm.
Exploring the Past, Celebrating the Future
The timeless charm of the Château de Cherveux, in the Deux-Sèvres region of France, will provide the backdrop for a day rich in discovery and exchange. Visitors will have the chance to delve into the history of hemp, an ancient crop with many facets. Through guided tours, they can explore the medieval corridors and discover the fantastic stories of the place. Legend has it that Château de Cherveux was built in one night by Mélusine.
Cherveux, capital of hemp
The commune of Cherveux owes its name to hemp. In the local dialect, «chorve» or «chorbe» referred to hemp, which was once abundantly cultivated by the region's peasants to supply the Rochefort royal rope factory via canals. Hemp was part of the daily life of the local people, and this festival pays tribute to this by symbolically declaring Cherveux the Hemp Capital and celebrating the annual Fête Nationale du Chanvre.
Four worlds of hemp
The Fête Nationale du Chanvre in Cherveux has a colorful program in store. The key players in the hemp industry, whether producers, craftsmen, processors or professionals, will be taking part in round-table discussions, tasting workshops, demonstration stands and themed events.
