Professor Xavier cures himself with cannabis
Sir Patrick Stewart, best known on screen as Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, and previously as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star-Trek, is now taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the’medical use of cannabis in California.
Currently on a promotional tour for the latest X-Men spin-off, Logan, Sir Patrick Stewart, 76, said to Esquire magazine that he now relies on a cannabis cream to keep his hands functional.
His character in Logan, released this week, suffers from a degenerative brain disease and struggles with his own physical problems. A role that echoes the actor's current life as he finds a solution: he uses cannabis.
«I mean, my main problem is that my hands don't work well anymore. But thanks to cannabis, they work a lot better than they used to. Thanks to the law in California today, it's just a cream that I apply to myself.».
«I'm thinking about old age anyway. Logan to think about it. I think about it every day. I don't think about it all the time. I don't dwell on it, but I've come to a point where the numbers are against you. Physical things [make me feel old]. You get to an age where you go to the doctor, you tell him how old you are and he just shrugs and says, «Oh, is that just it?»»
When asked by a journalist how he copes when he returns to England and can no longer legally use cannabis, Patrick Stewart has the answer: «I can't answer that question».
