The vast majority of Irish support the legalization of medical cannabis
A large majority of Irish people are now in favor of legalizing medical cannabis.
A poll conducted by the Amárach Institute for the Irish program The Claire Byrne Show shows that 77% of respondents were in favor of legalizing medical cannabis in Ireland, 13% against and 10% had no opinion.
Opinion in favor of medical legalization has been on the rise of late. Health Minister Simon Harris has asked the Health Products Regulatory Authority to seek expert advice on medical cannabis.
Although he says he doesn't foresee decriminalizing cannabis use, he has called for a full review of the potential medical benefits of cannabis to treat specific illnesses and chronic pain.
For many Irish people, the legalization of cannabis could help loved ones manage pain caused by illnesses such as multiple sclerosis or chronic back pain.
A number of personal stories have come to public attention in recent weeks in connection with the cannabis and its benefits. Her family tried various types of conventional medication, all of which failed to improve her condition, forcing her to spend a lot of time in hospital.
His parents asked to be allowed to administer cannabis oil with a high dose of the drug. cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive cannabis molecule.
