News from Billy, Ireland's first cannabinoid patient
We told you about Billy in April. first Irish patient to be prescribed cannabis oil by the national health system.
Billy, 11, has just celebrated his first 300 days without an epileptic seizure. To celebrate this milestone, his mother is organizing a festival this weekend, which will also serve to raise awareness of the positive effects of’cannabis oil.
Billy suffers from incurable and unstable epilepsy, which cannot be controlled by medicine or diet. In the event of a seizure, he cannot get out of it without rescue medication and oxygen. He has undergone numerous treatments in the United States, some of which have momentarily stabilized his disease. In 2016, his epilepsy intensifies. His mother accompanied him back to the United States, where he began his first treatment with cannabis oil.
After 9 months in the USA, Billy and his mother were able to return to Ireland with an Irish medical prescription to continue treatment. Billy is now seizure-free, and even has his own oil, the Billy's Bud.
His mother Charlotte still can't believe the progress he's made in a year. «Billy is doing very well, improving every week and making progress. I didn't think a year ago that he could still be here today, so I feel just as good and positive.»
This weekend's festival will be an opportunity to thank the people who have supported her, to share her experience with the many people who have asked her for advice, and to raise funds to help some struggling families get CBD oil.
«After Billy got his first CBD oil prescription, a huge number of families called us for help and information. We thought we should get together, there will be a big market with over 50 stalls selling CBD oil, organic food and handicrafts.»
«We should also get visits from doctors and politicians, we really hope to educate people about the benefits of CBD oil.».
