Guernsey issues its first medical cannabis cultivation license to 4C Labs
Club Confluence, a private space for reflection on Cannabis and its challenges for current and future hemp and cannabis entrepreneurs, will be hosting 4C Labs on December 16. To pre-reserve your place, please register here.
4C Labs has become the first and only company to obtain a medical cannabis cultivation license in Guernsey, marking a major milestone for the cannabis industry in the Channel Islands.
The Guernsey Cannabis Agency (BGCA) recently announced that of the 7 license applications submitted since its inception in July 2021, 6 had been refused.
A process that's harder than it needs to be
4C Labs CEO Greg Dobbin told Newsweed that Guernsey has an extremely serious license validation protocol in place.
«As with all medical cannabis licenses, the application process was long and harder than it needed to be. But we're finally happy with the results. In the case of Guernsey, there was an old law that required the creation of a new agreement between England and France. I don't think anyone knew that the process would have required such an agreement between two countries.»
«The license is the fourth issued in England at the moment and the only one among 7 applications for Guernsey. It now allows us to grow, process and distribute products qualified as medical cannabis in Guernsey, England and the countries of the European Union».
4C Labs must now complete construction of its cultivation site and will also be able to explore markets other than medical cannabis.
«For us, the next steps will be to start our investment program on 4C LABS. We have several institutions interested. We'll take the capital generated to finish our factory in Guernsey and prepare to launch our medical cannabis clinics in England.»
«Nevertheless, we will be able to start selling medical cannabis before our production plant is ready. We'll buy finished products, ship them to our distribution center and then to our patients.»
As to whether France could be a market for 4C Labs, Greg Dobbin is already planning to set up a model in France very similar to that in the UK.
«I think French patients will benefit from our products when the regulations are ready. 4C LABS will be able to source and sell medical cannabis products of a quality never before seen in France. It will be a medical revolution!.
