Fiji's parliament paves the way for hemp cultivation
Last Friday, the Fijian Parliament approved an amendment to the Drugs Act aimed at decriminalizing hemp and paving the way for the industrial use of the plant in the country.
According to the amendment, cannabis plants containing up to 1 % of THC will be removed from the Illicit Drugs Control Act.
«The government will also amend the 1986 customs regulations (prohibited imports and exports) to make industrial hemp a conditionally permitted import,» said Mr. Sayed-Khaiyum.

«We have worked closely with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to ensure that the agricultural school at the National University of Fiji cultivates these industrial hemp seeds,» said Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Attorney General and Minister of the Economy of the archipelago.
«Once we have them, we'll distribute these seeds to the farms.».
