Legalization of cannabis in the UK to be debated next month
Next month, British MPs will debate legalizing the production, sale and use of cannabis after a public petition reached over 200,000 signatures. The debate has been proposed by Labour's Paul Flynn, a long-time campaigner for cannabis reform, and will take place on October 12 in London.
The movement for legalize cannabis in the UK is better established than in France, but this is the first time since 2004 that MPs will be debating the legalization of cannabis.
James Owen, a Welsh student, launched the petition in July, and has since told Vice about his ambitions. The economics student went on to tell the Guardian that he hoped he could be in London to watch the debate, but that he wasn't sure whether the debate would change the government's position on the issue.
Clear UK, a pro-reform group, urged the British public to contact their MPs to encourage them to attend the debate next month.
