Curaleaf and Sanity join forces to conquer the UK medical cannabis market
Curaleaf Laboratories, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of medical cannabis products, has entered into an agreement with Sanity Group, the Berlin-based company that has just been acquired by Organigram, to accelerate product development and improve patient access.
A strategic alliance based on pharmaceutical standards
Under the terms of the agreement, Curaleaf Laboratories will rely on its infrastructure Approved by the MHRA to produce new formulations developed in partnership with Sanity Group. The British company brings its recognized expertise in manufacturing, quality assurance, and commercial distribution within a strict regulatory framework.
On his side, Sanity Group brings its pharmaceutical expertise, intellectual property, and international experience to the development of cannabinoid-based therapies. The Berlin-based company has built a reputation in European and global markets by focusing on compliant, research-driven products designed for medical use.
Richard Hodgson, CEO of Curaleaf Laboratories, explained the operational and regulatory aspects of the partnership:
«This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis products to patients in the United Kingdom. By collaborating with Sanity Group, we are combining our complementary strengths to accelerate innovation while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.»
The emphasis on quality control and compliance reflects the United Kingdom’s cautious approach to cannabinoid-based medications, where products must meet strict pharmaceutical standards and are prescribed under the supervision of a specialist.
Targeting the U.K. market for specialist prescribers
The United Kingdom remains a relatively young but strategically important market for the medical cannabis in Europe. Since the legalization of medical cannabis in 2018, access for British patients has gradually expanded and remains largely limited to private prescriptions and clinicians registered with the register of specialists.
The first products developed as part of this partnership are expected to be available by prescription starting in the first quarter of 2026. These formulations will be manufactured at the facilities in Curaleaf Laboratories and distributed to prescribing specialists throughout the country.
Finn Hänsel, founder and CEO of Sanity Group, described the United Kingdom as a priority market for expansion:
«The United Kingdom is a key strategic market for medical cannabis. Our partnership with Curaleaf Laboratories enables us to translate our capabilities into scalable, compliant products that can make a significant difference for patients and prescribing clinicians.»
