Colorado auctions cannabis license plates
How about a license plate with «BLUNT,» «WEED,» or even «420» on it? That’s the subject of a very official auction, organized by the very official State of Colorado. Americans have a problem—sorry, an obsession—with their license plates. And the first U.S. state to have legalized cannabis He understood that perfectly.
Bonus: The money raised will go to a Colorado fund that supports people with disabilities. «For nearly a decade, Colorado has been a leader in the cannabis industry, with businesses bringing bold, innovative, and creative initiatives to our state. This allows us to celebrate that reputation and fund projects to help the disabled community,», explains Governor Jared Polis in a press release.
This auction is being held to celebrate 420. In fact, Colorado drivers have until… April 20 to place their bids. A date that was obviously not chosen at random, since the 420 is International Cannabis Smokers' Day.
A custom license plate is a sign of a sense of humor
What’s more, each auction starts at… $420. So far, the most sought-after license plate is the “WEED” plate. Seven Colorado residents have placed bids, with the latest offer at $2,620.
Last year, an auction themed around *South Park*, a series produced in Colorado, had already raised $45,000. The state had put the «TEGRIDY» license plate up for sale, in reference to that episode who mocks the cannabis company MedMen.
In the United States, having a custom license plate on his car is a sign of a sense of humor, of being someone who cool. Unlike in France, you can choose your license plate almost entirely from scratch. All you have to do is pay a small fee to the government. Thanks to this system, you can see awesome plates like «HODOR,» «UMADBRO,» or even «I M LATE» on the roads.
