Cannabidiol's younger brother, canna-bielsoin (CBE)
Canna-bielsoin (or CBE) is one of the lesser-known cannabinoids. CBE is created through chemical stabilization, giving it a structure similar to that of cannabidiol (CBD). Their medical properties are therefore very similar.
The CBE was first presented in 1983. Since then, little information has been available about it. Only 80 experiments have been conducted on CBE. Its main characteristic is that it is created from CBD by a natural process. The two molecules are soluble in each other and can mix to create a stable, extremely potent compound.
TheOhio State University conducted a study in 1983, in which researchers observed sativa plant cultures under optimal growth conditions, in order to isolate cannabidiol. The extraction process was carried out using a catalyst material derived from sugarcane. CBE was then formed from cannabidiol during the metabolic process. The researchers explain that the process of creating CBE follows directly from biotransformation, whereby CBD becomes CBE. The clinical processes of CBE could be very similar to those of cannabidiol.
A other study was carried out in 1989 on the mechanism of CBE formation from cannabidiol in rabbits, mice and guinea pigs. The aim of the study was to understand how cannabidiol becomes canna-bielsoin. The study ultimately showed that cannabidiol undergoes an intermediate biotransformation to CBE.
The’Ohio State University also added that «it is quite possible that CBE contains the same medicinal properties as CBD», such as seizure suppression and antidepressant properties. Further studies are needed to investigate the role of CBE in the plant and how it interacts with the endocannabinoid system.
