Canada: a billboard detects cannabis smoke
Canada should legalize cannabis on July 1, 2018. This would make the country first G7 country to legalize cannabis. As a tribute to this forthcoming legalization, the company Prohibition, a Canadian specialist in smoking accessories, has installed a billboard in Ottawa, Ontario, that detects cannabis smoke.
Each time a weed is sniffed, the billboard sends out tweets accompanied by the hashtag #WeedTweet, directly addressed to leaders in favor of cannabis legalization. Among the recipients are Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian actor and director Seth Rogen and Drake, a Toronto-born singer and supporter of cannabis legalization.
The sign installed on July 1 also serves as a countdown to July 1, when recreational cannabis sales will be introduced.
«Canada is becoming more progressive by the second».»
July 1 is also Canada Day (the country's anniversary of independence), and this year the country celebrated its 150th birthday. To mark the occasion, no fewer than 30,000 people took to the streets of Canada's capital.
Christopher Mennillo, Vice-President Prohibition said: «We've always been proud to be Canadian, and at the most important of our national celebrations, we felt compelled to applaud openness and progressive vision.
By July 1, the purchase and possession of recreational cannabis will be legal for adults aged 18 and over. Canadian citizens will also be able to grow their own cannabis, but self-cultivation will be limited to 4 feet per house.
