Half of Canadians want to test edibles
According to a study conducted by Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada, 46% of Canadians will test cannabis-infused foods when they become available.
Of the 1087 participants in the study, 39% would also like to try cannabis cuisine in a restaurant. Only 20% said they were interested in cooking with cannabis at home, citing a lack of knowledge about how to do it. cooking with cannabis.
Concerning the future legalizing cannabis in Canada, 59% of those surveyed are concerned about the risks that legal cannabis may pose to children and young adults. And despite these concerns, 68% are in favor of legalizing cannabis for adult use.
Looking in detail at the survey results, the disparity in responses by province is fairly predictable. British Columbians are the most supportive of legalization, with 79%, while the Canadian Prairies show less support, at 54%.
«Younger people and those with the highest incomes are the most confident in their ability to cook with cannabis,» explains Professor Charlebois. He adds that among cannabis-infused dishes, Canadians are interested in testing baked goods, oils or spices.
«The survey results are in line with what we're seeing in the field,» says Lisa Campbell, an event organizer on the edibles. «You have Canadians who are super-interested in edibles, And most of them have never tried it. The fact that it's almost legal and regulated, dosed correctly, lab-tested, makes people more likely to trust these products.»
Campbell also draws a parallel between interest in infused food and disinterest in inhalation or vaping. «Many Canadians don't smoke. The idea of lighting up a joint is more intimidating than, say, eating a gummy bear.»
While the provincial and federal governments are working to the regulation of the future cannabis market, the question of cannabis-infused foods has not yet really been addressed, and is one of the few pieces missing from the legalization puzzle.
