German legalization is on the way. But when?
In the ranks of the demonstration we heard «my brain belongs to me», «cannabis is my medicine». Some posters read: «We're not criminals, we're gardeners». Demonstration spokesman Stefen Geyer says that cannabis prohibition creates serious problems. Legal cannabis would be less dangerous than the last 45 years of prohibition. MP Hans Strobele, who attended the demonstration, said: «Legalization will come, the question is when?»
Possession of cannabis is still illegal in Germany. 70 % of drug-related arrests were for cannabis consumption. But hope is growing for organizer Stefen Geyer: «Every day we're making progress towards legalization. 5 or 6 years ago we wouldn't have imagined having medical cannabis for patients with serious illnesses».
There's no doubt that if Germany starts to benefit from benefits of medical cannabis, The success could be exported to other European countries.
