Germany: First THC oils «Made in Germany» by May
For four years and the Legalization of medical cannabis in Germany, over 100,000 patients have been prescribed cannabis extracts or flowers. Yet Germany is still forced to’import all their cannabis, with national production experiencing significant delays at the start.
The company Eurox Pharma intends to turn the tide by May.« We will be the first German medical cannabis company that can say our oils are ‘Made in Germany’, Eurox boss, Neil Smith, says he is delighted, contacted by Business Cann. We think they will be the big winners in the German market.»
Today, Eurox's activity consists of importing products from Bedrocan from the Netherlands to resell them in Germany. She intends to diversify quickly and offer natural THC products and synthetic THC Dronabinol, as well as a range of consumer products containing CBD.
Views on France and the United Kingdom
Eurox Pharma was founded in 2019 by three veterans from the banking, pharmaceutical, and consulting industries. Upon quickly entering the German market, «our goal is to lock out the competition, pursues Neil Smith, a former Deutsche Bank guru. ‘If you believe in ’Made in Germany,» we will be the only supplier."
However, their oil will not be 100% German, as the company is forced to purchase cannabis flowers from Spain or Canada and then process them into oil in Germany, in Bensheim, a small town of 40,000 residents not far from the French border. Once it reaches full capacity, the company hopes to produce 50 tons of THC oil.
Another will for Eurox: to manufacture Dronabinol. This medication, sometimes marketed under the terms Marinol or Syndros, represents a 40 million euro market in Germany. The German company then wants to look further. «Once we have locked down the German market, we could look towards other European countries like France and the UK.», promises the CEO of Eurox.
But before thinking about going abroad, German competition will intensify by the end of the year. Three producers are authorized to produce therapeutic cannabis across the Rhine : two Canadian companies and one German company, which are expected to bring their products to market by then.
