Thailand to host World Ganja Festival in 2020
After years of strict cannabis prohibition, the Thailand legalized medical cannabis at the end of last year. Now, the country is catching up on its relative lag and seeking to take the lead in the global market. And what better way to mark the occasion than with an international conference?
Sharing cannabic knowledge
The first World Ganja Festival will take place from January 29 to February 2 in Nakhon Phanom province. The event is organized by the Thai Researchers Association with the cooperation of national and local governments.
The World Ganja Festival 2020 will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge on the medical uses of cannabis. It will include training seminars, information on technological innovations and business negotiation opportunities. A music festival and product design competition will also be presented.
Festival organizers hope the event will help create new opportunities for Thailand, the first country in the region to legalize cannabis for medical use. They also hope to contribute to a better understanding of cannabis and the legal issues surrounding its cultivation and use.
«We are the main host. Thailand is the main host. We decide who we invite to the Ganja Festival,» said Ganja World Festival Honorary Advisor General Charan Kullawanit in the video below. «There will be Chinese, Japanese and American guests.»
Benefiting from a strong medicinal cannabis tradition, Thailand has decided to regulate medical cannabis very seriously while offering wide access to treatments: all doctors will be able to prescribe cannabis, the’self-cultivation to be authorized and the country creates its own cannabis varieties from endemic varieties.
