Cannabis can inhibit the growth of cancer cells, according to a Thai study
A Thai government study suggests that cannabis may inhibit the growth of cancer cells. The Government Pharmaceuticals Organization (GPO) revealed that the THC and the CBD inhibited cancer cells in vitro and cannabinoids could be used to treat cancer of the breast, pancreas and bile ducts.
L’study of GPO began last year after the agency began distributing medical cannabis to public and private hospitals. The study focused on a variety of difficult-to-treat diseases and conditions.
A study by Prasat Neurological Institute and Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, combined with GPO research, revealed an improvement in symptoms in 62% (10 out of 16) children with refractory epilepsy.
The Prasat Neurological Institute also found that 5 of 7 multiple sclerosis patients who had failed to respond to standard treatments improved while being treated with a 1:1 THC:CBD extract.
The National Cancer Institute found that 14 terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care experienced pain relief of over 50%, had a greater appetite, gained weight and slept better after receiving cannabis extracts for three months. Department of Medical Services, using THC extract and pharmaceuticals for one month, reported that 42 terminally ill cancer patients in its medical cannabis clinics reported that they also improved their pain management, appetite and sleep.
Sakonnakhon Hospital, for three months, provided 16 Parkinson's patients with THC:CBD extract and found that their conditions improved, including better sleep and overall quality of life.
Patients throughout the study reported minimal side effects, including dry mouth, confusion, headache, heart palpitations, nausea and vomiting.
