The Syndicat Professionnel du Chanvre calls for a renewal of hemp cultivation
In a manifesto published Sunday in Le Parisien, The Syndicat Professionnel du Chanvre (SPC) is calling for hemp cultivation to become one of the levers of economic and ecological recovery.
According to SPC Chairman Aurélien Delecroix, «Hemp cultivation, which is part of our traditions and terroir, is renowned for its ecological virtues, as it requires neither irrigation nor plant protection products. It adds value to impoverished soils, is a sustainable production method and stimulates biodiversity. Its seeds are considered a “superfood“ thanks to their nutritional qualities. Its stalk can be used for applications as diverse as construction, textiles and bioplastics. Hemp has its place in a lifestyle that respects both people and the environment, from producer to consumer. In the 21st century, hemp must once again become the strategic raw material it was in the past”.
The SPC, which brings together players in the hemp wellness and medical cannabis sectors, aims to provide the political impetus to move from declarations of intent to the concrete invention of a sustainable economy based, at least in part, on hemp. They are calling on the public authorities to include the development of a hemp industry of the future in the recovery plan.
Nearly 200 signatories have joined the appeal, including personalities such as Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Arnaud Montebourg.
