Northern Nights, the first festival where you can (officially) buy cannabis

The Northern Nights Music Festival NNMF kicks off tomorrow evening in California. Its slogan promises camping, art, music, yoga, but above all... cannabis. Indeed, NNMF is the first and only music festival in the U.S. to allow the recreational sale and on-site consumption of cannabis.

The transition from AB 2020 law in September 2018 in the state of California has given them a unique position. This law authorizes local jurisdictions to grant temporary event licenses for the sale and consumption of cannabis at festivals and other events, provided only that vendors have a license. It's an honor to 'be the first place in the country to allow this kind of event,» says Steve Lazar, lead organizer at Humboldt County.

Prior to this law, cannabis companies would open temporary counters near festivals. Weedmaps, for example, recreated an oasis on the sidelines of Coachella.

The festival has been running for several years now, but this edition is the perfect opportunity to discover new cannabis strains, according to the organizer. «Whether it's a major festival or a farmers» market, cannabis consumers have more opportunities to build relationships with brands on a personal level rather than over-the-counter at a trade show.".

Supplies are easy to come by, as the festival is located in the famous Emerald Triangle, on the campground of the Cook's Valley, on the banks of the Eel River. This region is renowned for its top-quality cannabis, and over 20 growers are expected to showcase their production over the weekend.

The weekend program includes live performances by electronic music specialist Zhu, composer Big Wild, and rappers Berner & B-real. There will also be a space for cannabis-related wellness activities, including ganja yoga or workshops on medicinal plants.
