The NFL raises the THC threshold required to make a test positive

The National Football League (NFL) has raised the threshold for THC that triggers a positive cannabis test for players from 150 nanograms per milliliter of blood to 350 ng/ml, reports NBC Pro Football Talk.

Fines are also reduced under the new policy, going from half a match check to $15,000 for a first offense, from a full match check to $20,000 for a second offense, from a two-match fine to a single one for a third offense, and from a three-match fine to two for all subsequent offenses.

Fines for missed checks will also be reduced, and all players who currently have disciplinary measures pending for missed checks will have those missed checks excused and will be considered as having no missed checks.

In 2020, the league announced that it would end suspensions for positive tests on cannabis after the NFL Players Association attempted to modify the rules as part of the cannabis reforms in the United States.

In an interview earlier this year, Tavarres King, a former wide receiver who played for two teams during his three-year career, estimated that ‘about 80%« of the league’s players use cannabis.

After their NFL careers ended, several former players have ventured into the cannabis industry, including Marshawn Lynch., Calvin Johnson, Rob Sims, Ricky Williams, Terrell Davis, Marvin Washington, Joe Montana, Eugene Monroe and Carson Palmer.
