These newspapers advocate the legalization of cannabis
In July 2014, the New York Times launched a major appeal to put an end to prohibition reigning over the marijuana trade. A large thematic dossier [in which the NYT begins by pointing out that alcohol prohibition lasted 13 years. 13 years during which Americans continued to drink, and otherwise law-abiding citizens became criminals, and crime syndicates grew and prospered. The NYT then recalls the main arguments for the legalization of marijuana. And ends up calling for the legalization of cannabis in the US.
In detail, the NYT's dossier reviews the legal issues - and in particular the desire to leave the decision to legalize to the level of the States, and not the Country, the legal issues, the latest scientific advances on the subject, reports’Colorado experience and lays down certain rules that the market should follow so that legalization rhymes with reason.
This call resonates with the’call of 18 joint 1976 [PDF], launched by Libération on June 18, 1976. 150 personalities joined forces to denounce the hypocrisy of criminalizing cannabis consumption, in view of the scientific studies on the effects of cannabis on health. marijuana and the legal advances that already existed at the time in the USA, the Netherlands and Canada. Libé ended by pointing out that this was not a call to consumption, but «only to put an end to an absurd situation».
Recently, two magazines covered the marijuana legalization debate: Time magazine and National Geographic.

Time and National Geographic covers May / June 2015
Time reports on the latest scientific experiments on rats that could lead to new drugs, and help to curing brain tumors, and improve the lives of patients with glaucoma or veterans suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). He also points out that government restrictions on research are so strict that it's difficult to explore all the benefits the plant could have.
National Geographic provides a brief overview of the issues at stake in the debate (consumer habits, trends, market, etc.), and backs up his article with several examples of families who have chosen to move to Colorado to care for their children. children with severe epilepsy (up to 300 seizures per day), and who have noticed significant improvements (max 2 seizures per day, without the side effects of conventional medication) after CBD oil treatment.
It's worth noting that the US cover is different from the French one (which happens quite often, we'd like to point out): a US cover on a white background, less anxiety-provoking than the black background chosen by the French edition. And if you're following us, you'll be able to tell the difference. difference between sativa and indica leaves 😉

National Geographic June 2015 on marijuana
Both magazines are to be commended for their interest in the subject. However, neither takes a clear position in favor or against the legalization of cannabis.
