The Netherlands allows weed on domestic flights
If you're carrying less than 5 grams of cannabis in the Netherlands, you won't have to worry about it on the street. But until now, airports have been drug-free zones.
The Netherlands has just passed a law allowing the possession of 5g of weed on domestic flights. This means you can take your bag with you on your round-trip flight from Amsterdam to Rotterdam on KLM, without having to leave it at home or throw it away.
The decision was taken after Amsterdam airport police found the ground-floor toilets blocked for the umpteenth time: «It's the same thing every time. People forget they've got weed on them, and come and throw their weed in the toilets before going through security. This measure will really relieve our cleaning teams and all the passengers who use the airport,» said Arkan Abis, head of security at Amsterdam airport.
In the USA, internal flights between states that have legalized cannabis more or less already allow medical patients with prescriptions to keep their medication in their hand luggage, even though liquids larger than 10 centiliters are still banned.
The Netherlands is following suit. The original bill also intended to legalize the use of vaporizers in flight, but this amendment was blocked on the grounds of possible interference with navigation devices. As Snoop Dogg would say, «you may get high while high».
