Does Daech really sell hashish in France?
According to the news site Russia Today, slabs of hashish engraved with the name of the terrorist organization Islamic State were confiscated in Yvelines during a traffic stop. Police reportedly also discovered some in Brittany. Reports have thus suggested that the so-called Islamic State is selling drugs directly on French soil!
Even though Legalizing cannabis would curb ISIS's revenue streams (or Daesh in English)—that’s more likely what happened.
Marketing positioning
First of all, imported cannabis shipments are often marked with an inscription. This allows traffickers to:
- differentiate the packages based on quality
- to know who the order is for
- showcase their expertise
Customers can also ask producers or intermediaries, often Moroccans for hashish, to engrave a specific inscription on their joints. For example, you might find “Bugatti” or “Mercedes” labels, suggesting powerful and fast-acting effects, but we’ve also seen “Bogota” or “PSG” (and it’s hard to imagine Zlatan packing his own 12g after a 4-0 win against Rennes).
The same goes for the Daesh «shit.» Some jokers probably wanted to liken their strike to a “bomb,” with a bad pun. So bad that, according to information from *Le Télégramme*, this product would be hard to sell.
He who thought he was selling got caught!
