Medisca takes further steps to protect its innovative technologies
Medisca is suing FlackTek for patent infringement.
PLATTSBURGH, New York–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Medisca has taken another step forward in protecting its strategic investments in research and development (R&D) made decades ago, which ultimately led to the development of the Medisca MAZ mixer®, an industry leader. The Medisca MAZ mixer—an efficient, consistent, and high-quality solution for preparing hundreds of formulations—is protected by a robust portfolio of patents worldwide.
Despite the significant steps Medisca has taken to inform the industry about its patent portfolio, some companies continue to offer products that infringe on Medisca’s intellectual property. To protect its valuable rights and ensure that companies compete fairly, Medisca filed a lawsuit last month against Fagron B.V., HiperScan GmbH, and Gako Deutschland GmbH for infringement of the German equivalent of Medisca’s European Patent No. 3,538,071. This complaint was filed with the Munich District Court in Germany, seeking an injunction and monetary damages as compensation.
Today, Medisca expanded its efforts to enforce the law in the United States by filing a patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina against FlackTek for infringement of U.S. Patents Nos. 10,420,705, 10,765,600, 11,090,224, 11,096,864, 10,231,903, and 10,993,876. Like the proceedings before the German courts, the U.S. proceedings seek, as remedies, an injunction and monetary damages. As part of these proceedings, Medisca also asserts that the use and sale by PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) of FlackTek’s SpeedMixer and related components constitute an infringement of Medisca’s patents.
«We are committed to ensuring a fair and competitive global marketplace where innovation and intellectual property are respected,» said Panagiota Danopoulos, Senior Vice President of Global Strategy and Innovation at Medisca. “Therefore, in addition to our recent lawsuit in Germany, we are now taking further steps to ensure that our patents are respected worldwide.”
Medisca hopes that the complaint filed today will once again remind all of its competitors of the importance of respecting Medisca’s intellectual property. Indeed, the drug compounding industry—particularly the pharmaceutical and cannabis sectors—has come to rely on the quality and efficacy provided by Medisca’s MAZ mixer. Medisca’s ongoing R&D and intellectual property strategies will continue to ensure that all drug compounding companies receive the high-quality products they deserve.
