Marge and Homer sell cannabis in the latest episode of The Simpsons
The final episode of the 31st season of The Simpsons, entitled «Highway to Well», imagines a world in which cannabis is legal in Springfield. Marge, in search of a job, ends up budtender and sells THC candies, tinctures, torches or vape pen.
Like some South Park episodes, The Simpsons« foray into legal cannabis is full of jabs at the real world. Starting with familiar targets, Med Men or Mike Tyson's »Tyson Ranch«. Marge's new employer, Drederick Tatum, is a mix of cannabis personalities. »Well + Good" is constantly mistaken for an Apple store and is run by Tatum, a tattooed retired boxer, who wants to build a cannabis-themed resort and spa.
Homer, on the other hand, has a more seventies experience. At the back of Moe's bar, Homer replaces the iPad menus and products with his own. high-end with stained sofas, tie-dye and pouch bags to appeal to old stoners nostalgic for '70s cannabis, branches and seeds included.
Of course, like any couple working at opposite ends of the same industry, Homer and Marge eventually confront their differences regarding health, wellness and culture relative to the new world of cannabis. Or, as Bart puts it, «Mom and Dad are fighting a war on drugs.»
With over 30 seasons under their belts, this isn't the first foray into cannabis on The Simpsons. In addition to Otto's eternal foncedé, a 2002 season 13 episode saw Homer obtain a medical cannabis prescription for an eye injury. It seems here that the new «Well + Good» storyline was only destined to stay in one episode. Cannabis is unlikely to return to Springfield for another fifteen seasons, unless the CEO of Tyson Ranch manages to convince the writers to welcome Marge into a simpsonesque version of the former boxer's cannabinoid complex.
The episode is available on Fox (with a VPN) or on Youtube.
