In the state of Nevada, any adult aged 21 or older can now purchase cannabis for recreational use in Las Vegas, provided they present a form of identification. But what about foreign tourists?
How do I buy cannabis in Las Vegas?
With the implementation of the new law on recreational cannabis, several questions have arisen regarding cannabis tourism. This is especially true given that the Recreational cannabis sales break records since its opening.

The Reef Dispensaries in Las Vegas
Tick Segerblom, a Nevada state senator, made his first recreational cannabis purchase on July 1 at Reef Dispensaries in Las Vegas. This dispensary operates two locations in Las Vegas for recreational cannabis users and patients seeking cannabis for medical purposes.
«As long as a consumer is 21 years old and has a valid ID, a tourist can purchase cannabis without a medical card in Las Vegas. »The benefit of this card is more accessible to patients in the state because it allows for lower taxes on purchases,” he says.
Furthermore, recreational cannabis may only be consumed in private settings, which makes legal use difficult for tourists, as hotels generally do not allow guests to smoke in their rooms. To make consumption easier, Nevada is expected to open lounge bars soon.
«Cannabis use in hotel lobbies depends on the discretion of the owners,» he adds. «Technically, it’s not legal, even though cannabis is a substance that can be consumed discreetly.»
Consumers who fail to comply with this federal law will be fined $600. The state of Nevada also reminds the public that driving under the influence of cannabis remains prohibited.
So, to sum up:
- You just need to be 21 or older to legally purchase cannabis in Las Vegas—or anywhere in Nevada, for that matter—and be able to prove it with an ID card, passport, driver’s license, etc.
- Depending on the clinics' hours of operation, you can buy them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- You may only use cannabis in private places designated for that purpose
- The purchase limit is set at 1 ounce (28 grams) of marijuana and 3.5 grams of concentrates (or 2,975 mg of THC)
- If you have a state medical prescription, you’ll pay less for your weed (lower tax on medical cannabis)
