Italy too has the right to its «cannabis light».»
After the success of CBD cannabis in Switzerland, an Italian company has also embarked on a similar «cannabis light» idea. Easy Joint intends to take up the challenge of marketing cannabis legally, and contribute to the process of legalizing cannabis in the country.
Legal cannabis?
The company can market this cannabis because of its low level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), It contains between 0.2 and 0.6% of THC, which is the legal limit in Italy. In addition, this type of cannabis has a relatively high content of cannabidiol (CBD), around 4%.
In Italy, the consumption and cultivation of cannabis for recreational use are illegal although there are very few penalties for personal use.
The company conceived and implemented this project in the form of a product which, as in Switzerland, serves as a substitute for tobacco. Easy Joint claims that light cannabis is a healthier alternative to cigarettes. The aroma and taste produce a calming effect due to cannabidiol.
Easy Joint emphasizes the benefits of CBD rather than the psychoactive side of THC. The cannabidiol has relaxing properties which can, for example, act on chronic pain and epilepsy, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. However, this product is intended for recreational use only. Italy legalized the use of cannabis for medical purposes in 2013.
The company also emphasizes that the product is natural and chemical-free. The final product is not ground to avoid damaging « terpenes and terpenoids responsible for aroma».
Marketed since last May, this low-THC cannabis is sold in 8-gram packs at €17 each.
