In Maine, free cannabis to clean up litter
In the town of Gardiner, Maine, pot smokers have something to be happy about! The owner of the dispensary Summit Medical Marijuana, is offering free cannabis in exchange for cleaning the city's streets.
According to a local newscast, Deenis Meehan, the owner, explains that anyone over the age of 21 will receive free cannabis if they show up with a trash bag containing city trash.
Highlighting the Positive Aspects of Cannabis
The project was an immediate success. In fact, dozens of people came to the clinic and participated in the project. The owner is pleased and says he has received dozens of trash bags.
«There’s a dispensary in Colorado that’s already done this—the Pothole Cannabis Club in Colorado Springs. And it worked very well, which is why I wanted to do the same thing here in Maine,» explains Dennis Meehan.
The businessman's company thanked the participants for their cleanup efforts on their Facebook page. She says she hopes to expand this project throughout the state of Maine.
Deenis goes on to explain that this program is a good opportunity to highlight the benefits of cannabis. «This plant has a significant impact on someone who, for example, has lost all hope in life. In the medical field as well, cannabis has an impact, particularly for patients who no longer believe in the benefits of modern medicine,» he said.
He also emphasizes that this program marks a positive turning point in the «ever-evolving» nature of cannabis.
In November 2016, Maine has legalized recreational cannabis. Giving cannabis as a gift is completely legal in the state. It’s worth noting that the city of Gardiner was one of the cities that imposed a moratorium on the sale of recreational cannabis before the state legalized it.
