Grey Area
The coffeeshop Grey Area is one of Amsterdam's legendary coffees, and also one of its smallest. Located in the Jordaan, it's a favorite of many English and American tourists. Not surprising, given that the two creators of the Grey Area are themselves Americans.
The coffee shop has only 4 tables but offers unique varieties, including several Cannabis Cups winners:
- Chocolope: a chocolate-flavoured sativa
- Bublle Gum, with the smell and taste of chewing gum
- Grey Crystal, unpressed hash, quite potent
The photos on the wall are a reminder that the Grey Area has played host to such famous visitors as Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Flavor Flav (Public Enemy) and Lou Reed.
Because of its small size and reputation, you'll often find customers waiting outside. The Grey Area is only open from noon to 8pm, so don't wait too long to get there.
The Grey Area features a number of glass bongs and a Volcano vaporizer.
Grey Area coffeeshop menu
On the menu, a few DNA Genetics strains (Chocolope or Tangie), and above all weed that's hard to find elsewhere: Yeti Dawg, Blue Dream, 24K, Pineapple Haze, GreyBerry... Prices range from €10 to €16 a gram. The Californian influence is clear, with plenty of Kush and Diesel crosses.
For hash, the menu ranges from €12 to €30 a gram, with products that are expensive but crazy enough.
Grey Area has been around for 15 years, and the quality is still there, but at a price. For lighter pockets, the GreyBerry (€10 a gram) does the trick, with its bubblegum/berry taste. If you can't find places in the Grey Area, you can go to Amnesia, which is on the parallel street to the north.
