CBD shows promise in two new studies released this week
Two studies released this week have once again demonstrated the potential of CBD as a prophylactic option for stroke prevention, particularly with regard to behavioral deficits that may develop in those who use cannabis during adolescence.
The first study, published in *Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research*, found that CBD could play an effective role in stroke prevention.
In particular, the study shows that CBD can exert beneficial effects on the homeostatic functions of the endocannabinoid system—including reduced appetite and increased weight loss—and improve metabolic syndrome while inhibiting the development of atherosclerosis, a disease that reduces the flexibility of the arteries, caused by the buildup of fatty deposits inside the arteries.
The second study focused on the relationship between THC and CBD in adolescent and adult mouse models. Mice exposed to THC during adolescence exhibited a number of behavioral deficits, including repetitive and compulsive behaviors. Other mice, exposed to a combination of THC and CBD, did not exhibit the same deficits.
These findings support the hypothesis that adolescent THC use can lead to long-term behavioral deficits, but that “co-treatment’ with CBD prevents these deficits.
