Cannabis Europa in Madrid on February 10, 2020
Cannabis Europa, Europe's leading medical cannabis conference, sets up shop in Madrid on February 10, 2020.
Last year, Cannabis Europa was held in Paris, a few months before the announcement of French experimentation with medical cannabis. His arrival in Spain comes against a backdrop of European regulatory change and strong support for therapeutic cannabis. Spain is also playing a key role in the development of the social approach to cannabis in Europe.
Spain's first Cannabis Social Club opened in 1991, and there are now over 400 clubs throughout the country. Despite a flexible policy on cannabis consumption in private places, Spain is struggling to open up to medical cannabis.
Yet the country would represent one of the most vigorous markets for cannabis in Europe, both for Spanish patients and for export. With 84% of the Spanish population in favor of medical cannabis, a strong commercial industry and one of the most innovative biomedical sectors in the world, Spanish cannabis could quickly become the region's most promising industry.
Cannabis Europa will bring together over 250 politicians, business leaders and health professionals to discuss how to unlock Spain's potential. Carefully curated panels and expert speakers will cover a wide range of topics throughout the day. MEP Piernicola Pedicini will give a powerful overview of different regulatory models for Spain and Europe, followed by the President of the Spanish Federation of Pharmaceutical Companies, Luis de Palacio, who will examine the existing infrastructure in Spain to support the development of a strong Spanish medical cannabis sector in Europe.
