Pure cannabidiol to treat epileptic children

According to a new study According to a study conducted on two children and published in the journal *Frontiers in Pharmacology*, pure CBD could completely eliminate epileptic seizures. The study was published by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

According to the abstract of this study, preliminary animal studies have shown that CBD-enriched extracts may have beneficial effects for children with epilepsy. The results of these studies have not yet been approved by health regulatory agencies, but the announcement is promising.

To conduct this study on humans, the researchers are using two test subjects: one child with frontal dysplasia and the other with Dravet syndrome. Both cases could be described as severe epilepsy.

At the start of this study, the children are treated with standard medical cannabis, in the form of oil with a high concentration of CBD and a low THC content. Even though the dose was small, both children exhibited all the signs of being high: red eyes, reduced attention span, and sluggishness.

99.61% Cannabidiol

This magic potion was slightly modified to completely eliminate the THC. The treatment now contains 99.61% CBD; the mixture is combined with food and then ingested by the patient. The epileptic seizures that used to occur every morning have now become less frequent, occurring only every 3 to 4 weeks. More importantly, once the ideal dosage and frequency of treatment were determined, researchers observed that the seizures disappeared for one year in one child and for one year and 10 months in the other.

Researchers emphasize the evidence that CBD can treat even the most severe forms of epilepsy. They point to the lack of knowledge surrounding the subject. They will need to refine dosing and purification methods in order to mass-produce effective cannabinoid-based medications.
