Can cannabidiol reverse the effect of foncedalle?
Cannabis is well known to cause feelings of hunger, more commonly known as "foncedalle." It is one of the effects of the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which increases our appetite. Could cannabidiol, its antagonist, have the opposite effect?
Cannabidiol (CBD): A Remedy for Hair Loss?
THC and CBD are two cannabinoids produced by Cannabis plants. They generally have opposite effects: while THC produces psychoactive effects, CBD, for example, helps to counteract them. According to a British study, it also appears that CBD reduces the feeling of hunger, whereas THC increases it.
The researchers administered the following to male rats: cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), a cannabinoid that results from the oxidation of THC, as well as cannabigerol (CBG), a cannabinoid often found in hemp. These three cannabinoids have no psychoactive properties.
The tests showed different effects: while the rats were eating, those treated with CBD ate significantly less. CBN showed the opposite effect: the rats that received CBN ate more. According to the scientists who conducted the study, this is the first time that cannabinol has been shown to increase appetite.
Cannabis reduces the risk of diabetes
A other study shows that cannabis helps reduce the risk of diabetes. Scientists have found that the prevalence of obesity is lower among cannabis users than among non-smokers. In fact, among those who did not smoke, the risks of obesity were 22.0% and 25.3%, whereas they were 14% for a person who uses cannabis at least three times a week.
Despite cannabis being associated with increased appetite, its use is linked to a lower body mass index and lower insulin levels. However, further studies are needed to confirm the existing findings.
In addition, cannabis contains terpenes, including limonene, which is recognizable by its lemony scent. This scent can be found in the peel of citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. Limonene promotes loss of appetite and weight loss. It can be used in cream form to be more effective on the skin.
Some researchers suggest that prolonged use of cannabis and/or THC, as well as higher doses, may have the opposite effect. Thus, cannabis may inhibit the CB1 receptor, One of the two endocannabinoid receptors found primarily in the brain and nerve endings. This can suppress appetite and potentially lead to weight loss.
