Acne and cannabidiol creams
We already know the benefits of cannabis in beauty products. Several cosmetics companies are now adding hemp to their traditional beauty products to treat dermatological problems.
A pharmaceutical company has tried to find an effective cure for acne with synthetic cannabis. Botanix Pharmaceuticals, based in the USA and Australia, develops therapies and treatments for skin diseases. For example, they have set up a clinical trial on acne by incorporating cannabidiol (CBD) BTX 1503.
The clinical trial began last year on twenty participants with acne symptoms. They tested synthetic cannabidiol to see if the product proved effective. Botanix's clinical trial lasted a year, and the company claims (inevitably) that it worked. Patients who applied the product reportedly saw their irritations disappear, or almost.
The role of CBD on acne
The cannabidiol (CBD) has anti-inflammatory properties. For acne, the best method of administration remains creams.
In his report, Botanix Pharmaceuticals explains that BTX 1503 is recommended for the treatment of moderate to severe acne. Their synthetic CBD retains its anti-inflammatory properties and lipostatic (fat reserve control) effects. CBD inhibits the proliferation of sebum, a lipidic film secreted naturally by the skin and scalp. Last but not least, CBD is also anti-bacterial and specifically targets acne.
The company plans to launch a trial program for acne patients in the coming weeks with the launch of their product, Permetrex™.
A 2014 study published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation tested the effects of CBD on the scalp and skin of a human being. The scientists noted that CBD inhibits fat production and sebocyte production. But the study was not carried out on humans. Botanix will soon be testing this in a new clinical study.
