Bernard Kouchner reiterates his support for the legalization of cannabis

On last weekend’s episode of *Les Terriens du Dimanche*, Bernard Kouchner reiterated his support for the legalization of cannabis.

Admitting that he has smoked cannabis between 10 and 20 times in his life, he speaks of the «need to take a closer look at ourselves» in Europe and around the world, and to establish a system of unrestricted, state-regulated sales that, among other things, ensures product quality.

Bernard Kouchner appeared on the LTD show to mark the release of his book Toxic, co-written with Patrick Aeberhard, Jean-Pierre Daulouède, Bertrand Lebeau Leibovici, and William Lowenstein, which recounts his fight for better care for people with substance use disorders.

In the book, the co-founder of Doctors Without Borders and later of Médecins Du Monde calls for the repeal of the 1970 law, for the cannabis legalization and the decriminalization of the non-commercial use of hard drugs to reduce risks.

Bernard Kouchner was a signatory to the “Appel du 18” of 1976, which had already called for the legalization of cannabis for the same reasons. The CIRC took up the idea in 1993 to organize an annual event of the same name aimed at advocating for the legalization of cannabis.
