A trip to Amsterdam: our selection of coffeeshops
Last weekend, part of the Newsweed team went to Amsterdam. It was very tempting to put together a « Top 10 Coffeeshops in Amsterdam. »The 8th will surprise you« or a run-of-the-mill article “ What are the best coffee shops in Dam?«. Since, after all, there’s no accounting for taste, we’ll simply present our A Selection of Amsterdam's Coffeeshops, where some of us had a great time.

The Rookies
Tradition dictates that we always begin our stay with the Rookies, a small coffeeshop near Leidseplein. The place used to be a pub not too long ago, so don’t be surprised by the tables, which look a lot like those in Irish pubs. The menu features only 6 varieties of weed and 6 varieties of hashish—almost a guarantee of quality. Rookies offers its own brand of weed, “Rookies,” a light, woody indica strain derived from the Jack Herer, perfect for getting started. Amnesia Haze is excellent, with its characteristic citrusy aromas, and provides an immediate feeling of cheerfulness.

Barney's Coffeeshop
The Barney's Coffeeshop is a very well-known coffeeshop. The place is packed, the line at the counter is quite long, and there are four people serving customers. Each table has its own vaporizer. The menu is quite extensive, with several Cannabis Cup winners. We've narrowed it down to two Haze : Utopia Haze and the G13 Haze. The G13 is very potent. It combines the sativa and euphoric qualities of Haze with the indica qualities of the G13, with fairly earthy and peppery aromas. Utopia is milder, likely due to its Brazilian origins. It also has earthy and piney aromas.
If Barney’s is full, head over to Barney’s Farm, just two doors down from the coffee shop, for some herbal tea. There are a few benches and a cool retro vibe. The only downside is that the tobacco has been replaced with an herbal blend, which slightly masks the weed’s flavors.

Dolphins Coffeeshop
We stopped at the Dolphins Coffeeshop, just for the decor—a trip 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The menu looked tempting, with a good selection of weed and hash, and two house recipes for space cookies. But we were expected elsewhere, so we turned back.

Free 1 Coffeeshop
We also stopped at the Free 1 Coffeeshop, with a menu rich in hash : Nepalese, Afghan, Charras, etc. The weed map isn't left out either: OG Kush, White Widow, AK-47, Bubble. The weed we were shown was a little dry, but the White Widow The one we tasted was perfect: light, with a lemony aroma and a minty flavor, offering undeniable relaxing effects and a cheerful mood.

From Dampkring Original
Finally, the From Dampkring. Let’s not beat around the bush—this was our favorite coffee shop of the weekend. Even though it’s very well-known (it’s the coffee shop where a scene from *Ocean’s Twelve* starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney was filmed), we’ve always managed to find a spot inside. The atmosphere is very laid-back; young and old alike crowd toward the back to buy their bags, and a cat sleeps nonchalantly on a counter. The menu features a wide selection of weed, high-quality hash, and pre-rolled joints. The Cheese It’s simply amazing: a strong smell, a powerful taste, and immediate effects. Baraka was the only hash we tried all weekend, but what a hash! Extreme potency with a spicy flavor, all for a very reasonable price. Jack Herer lives up to its reputation, and Pure Haze is perfect for breakfast. And even the mint tea is really good!

Syberie is really nice, too—two young women run the place. They have good weed; I didn’t try the hash. There’s plenty of space to chill. Personally, I thought it was a great spot… but it’s true that it’s pretty hard to find a place with space to relax, a good vibe, and—most importantly—great quality!

Hi, team and readers,
It's been several years now since I fell in love with Caramello hash from 420. Its smell, taste, and effects are just right for me. Give it a try!
It's a must-buy on every one of my trips!
See you later!

Hello, everyone,
Here's my little list of the coffee shops I like the most
As for Barney’s, I agree with you—it’s one of my favorites, even though I find it a little pricey; the quality is always there. It’s no coincidence that there are all those hats in the window, and then, on the same street, there’s The Greenhouse.
There was also Rokerij 2, which was one of my favorites, but it closed—sob.
There were others, too, but I didn't go there as often—like Kadinsky, Abraxas, and Grey Area.
However, where I disagree with you is regarding the Dampkring, which I consider to be a tourist trap (like the state-owned bulldogs) and which is using the movie to attract customers—but that’s just my personal opinion, and as noted in the article: »There’s no accounting for taste.»

Hello, everyone,
The Real Top 10

This applies to all of the Netherlands, but I recommend ’De Boerejongens.’
Good weed and hash, and still affordable

These are still just commercial coffee shops—there are some little coffee shops known only to the locals that I'm keeping to myself, haha!!!! :p

Hey readers,
Great article! If you're visiting Amsterdam or another city in the Netherlands, you can easily find a café on this website (using your smartphone, based on your current location): https://getsmokin.nl/
Have fun!

Could we get a short, more in-depth article on the selection of edibles in Amsterdam? 🙂
