Tennessee launches plans to legalize medical cannabis
Tennessee State Senator Janice Bowling took advantage of the passage of the legalization of medical cannabis in neighboring Mississippi to reintroduce a bill that would allow the use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes.
If passed, the bill would allow qualified patients regular access to medical cannabis, and regulate the process of licensing producers to grow, produce, distribute, transport, sell and acquire cannabis for medical and scientific research purposes.
«There are tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Tennessee residents who could benefit from medical cannabis,» a declared Senator Bowling. «This is needed in Tennessee, patients desperately need it, and doctors need an alternative to opioids.».
«43 states have now legalized it and many states around us have legalized it,» a declared Bowling. «We are stupid in the worst sense of the word. Just incredibly stupid and incredibly unresponsive to what is now readily available for people to know is a safe medical solution.»
Janice Bowling has been trying to legalize medical cannabis in Tennessee for several years. She has introduced bills for medical cannabis, but has also proposed other initiatives to further scientific research into medical cannabis.
Unlike other U.S. states, Tennessee has no ballot initiative process.
