Rolling Greens: a golf course for cannabis enthusiasts
Not far from the Canopy Growth in Smith's Falls, Ontario (Canada) that the golf park Rolling Greens has taken hold. With its equivocal slogan « Come roll with us »("Come and roll with us"), he offers golf and cannabis enthusiasts the chance to mix it up and watch the balls roll by, with their buddies, since golfers are allowed to consume cannabis on the course.
Cannabis and golf
The park will open on April 20, of course. Located just 45 minutes from Ottawa and not far from Canopy's Lombard facility, owner Gordon Weiske, who bought the course a few months ago, hopes the park will become a popular destination for cannabis tourists. For the moment, the park allows the use of cannabis, but does not provide it. Customers have to bring their own. Nevertheless, Gordon Weiske is planning to open a cannabis business on site.
That won't be for a while yet, as the province of Ontario has limited the number of retail licenses to 25 despite cannabis shortages in the country. She attributed them by drawing lots - a first in Canada - and announced earlier this month that the last license had been awarded to a Hamilton business. The province will be issuing more, but not until the industry resolves its supply problems. Nevertheless, golf courses already enjoy preferential treatment and have the right to set their own rules and thus authorize the consumption of cannabis on their premises.
Rolling Greens may be the first Canadian golf course to allow cannabis, but golf and cannabis have always gone hand in hand. Fore20 Golf Tournament, a golf tournament that combines golf and cannabis, and even has its own Cannabis Cup, is growing in popularity and, according to the Marijuana Golfer Survey,78% of young golfers (under 35) are comfortable with the idea of smoking cannabis on the course - which is not the case for senior players. An experiment was even carried out on how cannabis use affects the game of golf.
