Tommy Chong is best known as one half of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong, who spent their careers impersonating cannabis users. Their best sketches of the '70s contributed to the creation of several films in the '80s, 4 of which were directed by Tommy Chong. The duo also dubbed some Disney movies and appeared in such films as After Hours, and then bid farewell. You will also have seen Tommy Chong in The 70’s Show, where he played Leo Chingkwake, an old hippie who ran a photo processing store. And Martin Cheech in Nash Bridges, where he played the show's secondary character.
Tommy Chong is a long-time cannabis activist. He served time in prison in 2003, along with a dozen others, for selling drug paraphernalia through his company Chong Glass / Nice Dreams. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell drug paraphernalia in exchange for dropping charges against his wife and son.
More recently, Tommy Chong appeared on the American version of Danse avec les Stars, and then on his new online show, Almost Legal, which ended at the end of October 2014, and was sponsored by Weedmaps.
He now creates branded accessories for weed and hemp. He also markets his Chong Water, a mint-lime drink made from organic hemp and rich in electrolytes, vitamins and antioxidants. And since last July, connoisseurs have been able to buy the Futurola Chong Roller, which is supposed to roll perfect joints. He also sells his own variety of weed, Tommy Chong OG, available at 99 High Tide in Malibu.
Despite all this good news, Chong announced on Twitter last June that he had been diagnosed with rectal cancer and was undergoing treatment.
He had already cured of cancer of the prostate in 2012, with the help of several therapies, which included cannabis oil. At the time, he said:
«After my oncologist told me last June that I had prostate cancer and suggested a very heavy treatment, not authorized in the USA but only in Mexico, at a cost of 25,000 $, I immediately looked for alternatives. I contacted my nephew in Vancouver, who was about to become a doctor, and he suggested that I meet Dr. McKinnon in Victoria, British Columbia. This doctor changed my diet, prescribed supplements, and within a year I had eliminated the threat of cancer. I also used cannabis oil. With diet, supplements and hash oil, plus a session with world-renowned healer Adam Dreamhealer, I'm cancer-free. That's right, I kicked his ass! The magic plant cures cancer with the right diet and supplements. I still have to do blood tests, MRIs, etc., but I feel better than ever. And now, a nice joint of kush to celebrate!»
From now on, he spends his time at the 99 High dispensary in Malibu, his cannabis vapo in hand to ease his aches and pains, and intends to recover from his cancer once again.
