Jorge Cervantes is the pseudonym of George Van Patten, an American author born in 1953 and considered the world's leading authority on cannabis culture.
His real name has long remained confidential. He adopted this Spanish-speaking pseudonym in the 1980s to protect himself from prosecution at a time when writing about cannabis cultivation was risky in the USA.
In 1983, Jorge Cervantes published Indoor Marijuana Horticulture, a comprehensive technical guide to growing cannabis indoors. The book went through several editions, and quickly established itself as the essential reference for amateur and professional growers alike.
Translated into nine languages and selling several hundred thousand copies worldwide, it remains the best-selling cannabis culture book in history.
