Michka is the pseudonym of a French author and activist whose real name (Michka Seeliger-Chatelain) is not widely publicized, a deliberate choice at a time when writing about cannabis in France was liable to prosecution. A discreet but essential figure in French-speaking cannabis culture, she was the first to make technical and cultural literature on cannabis available in French.
In the 1990s, when literature on cannabis was virtually non-existent in French, Michka undertook pioneering translation and publishing work. In particular, she translated the works of Jorge Cervantes (Indoor Marijuana Horticulture), helping to disseminate cultivation techniques to French-speaking growers at a time when such information was circulating only in English.
For many years, she founded and managed Mama Editions, a publishing house specializing in cannabis literature, which publishes practical guides, activist works and cultural books on cannabis in French. These publications initially circulated confidentially before finding their way into specialized bookshops.
Michka regularly takes part in major European cannabis events (Spannabis, High Times Cannabis Cup, Cannafest), where she is recognized as a benchmark by industry professionals. Her approach combines documentary rigor, militant commitment and educational concern, in the tradition of authors such as Jack Herer or Jorge Cervantes, whom she has helped to make known in France.
She advocates a pragmatic, humanist approach to legalization, based on harm reduction and individual freedom rather than a purely commercial vision of the cannabis industry.
Mishka's influence on French cannabis culture is difficult to quantify, but fundamental. Generations of French growers, consumers and activists have gained access to their first serious information on cannabis thanks to her translations and publications. She represents an essential link between English-language cannabis literature and the French-speaking public, at a time when the Internet did not yet exist to bridge this gap.
Seed bank Sensi Seeds paid tribute to her in 2017 by developing a variety with her called «Mishka».
